Driving schools in Beijing have all finalized their price-hike schemes on the training courses Thursday, the Beijing Times reports.

The cost of a course on driving a manual shift sedan has been raised a maximum of 2,000 yuan (293 US dollars)after a two-round price-hike, which started in March of this year, the report says.

The move came after the Ministry of Public Security's recent requirements that all driving schools must add seven hours of instruction time to the current 79 hours, which is meant to improve the skills of new drivers on the city's increasingly crowded roads, thus reducing the potential risks of traffic accidents.

While leading to an increase of the cost for driving lessons, the announcement of "extra hours" had also prompted many citizens in Beijing to register for driving lessons before the higher rates finally take effect.
